The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities

The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) awarded a 12-month contract with TheSetroc Group, manage a Cultural and Linguistic Competence grant designed to enhance services access to people from Chinese-American and Spanish-speaking communities.The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is responsible for coordinating servicesfor nearly 140,000 New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Downsyndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome and other neurological impairments.

OPWDD provide services directly and through a network of approximately 650 non-profit service providing agencies, with about 80 percent of services provided by the private non-profits and 20 percent provided by state-run services.The Setroc Group is working closely with OPWDD stakeholders–To identify Front Door materials for review and OPWDD staff to engage with Community-Based Organizations(CBOs) and lead the review, revision, recommendation process.Develop a process to identify and subcontract with CBOs and/or Multicultural agencies.

 

Assess the linguistic and cultural competence of OPWDD Front Door materials and evaluate front line staff needs to serve Spanish speaking and Chinese-American individual.Revise or develop training/videos/and other informational materials for Spanish speakers and the Chinese-American community and front-line staff.
